The 8 Hokages
Protectors of Konohagakure & Guardians of the Will of Fire
What is a Hokage?
The title Hokage ("Fire Shadow") belongs to the supreme leader and military commander of Konohagakure (the Hidden Leaf Village). Revered as the strongest ninja in the village, the Hokage protects the citizens while embodying the Will of Fire—a guiding philosophy viewing the entire community as one interconnected family.
1st Hokage: Hashirama Senju
Revered worldwide as the "God of Shinobi," Hashirama Senju co-founded Konohagakure alongside Madara Uchiha. Leader of the Senju clan, he possessed legendary Wood Release (Mokuton) abilities, unmatched natural Sage Mode, and a vision of peace that reshaped the ninja world.
2nd Hokage: Tobirama Senju
The younger brother of Hashirama, Tobirama Senju was a pragmatic strategist who established Konoha's core institutions (ANBU, Academy, Chunin Exams). Renowned for his supreme mastery of Water Release, he invented revolutionary jutsu like the Shadow Clone Jutsu, Flying Raijin, and Edo Tensei.
3rd Hokage: Hiruzen Sarutobi
Hailed as "The Professor" for mastering every chakra nature and jutsu in Konoha, Hiruzen Sarutobi led the village through multiple Great Ninja Wars. Mentor to the Legendary Sannin (Jiraiya, Tsunade, Orochimaru), he passed down the Will of Fire to generations of young shinobi.
4th Hokage: Minato Namikaze
Famed throughout the five nations as "Konoha's Yellow Flash," Minato was creator of the Rasengan and a master of space-time ninjutsu. He sacrificed his life during the Nine-Tails attack to seal Kurama inside his newborn son, Naruto Uzumaki.
5th Hokage: Tsunade
Granddaughter of Hashirama Senju and one of the Legendary Sannin, Tsunade is celebrated as the greatest medical ninja in history. Known for her monstrous physical strength and life-restoring Mitotic Regeneration, she guided Konoha through the invasion of Pain and the Fourth Ninja War.
6th Hokage: Kakashi Hatake
Famous across the world as "Kakashi of the Sharingan" and the "Copy Ninja," Kakashi led Team 7 to global salvation. As the Sixth Hokage, he modernized Konohagakure into a thriving technological metropolis during an era of international peace.
7th Hokage: Naruto Uzumaki
Ostracized in his youth as the Jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails, Naruto persevered through incredible hardship to become the "Hero of the Hidden Leaf" and Savior of the World. Fulfilling his lifelong dream, he stands as the strongest shinobi in history.
8th Hokage: Shikamaru Nara
Konoha's premier genius tactician, Shikamaru Nara stepped up as acting Eighth Hokage in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex era. Reluctantly assuming the mantle to preserve political stability and safeguard the village, he protects Konoha with supreme intelligence.
